Executive Briefing

Insider Risk and Fraud
RSVP

A discussion and review of a next generation approach to threat control and compliance

Insider threats are possibly the biggest challenge that today’s corporate risk officer has to face. In times of economic distress and an unstable political and business environment, employees and insiders are increasingly the target of disruptive syndicates and open to the highest bidder. Employee disaffection and other pressures on these people who often occupy levels of high trust, are raising the private and public sector risk levels in ways previously not seen.

Insider threats are often very difficult to detect due to a variety of reasons.  Deep seated organisational and cognitive bias, limited sharing of insider exploits and modus operandi and the difficulty to believe that someone with whom a trust relationship has been cultivated has actually turned hostile to the organisation.  To add to this, organisational leadership often ignores the fact that insiders don’t just get to know some of the organisation’s secrets, but also become increasingly aware of the various controls and measures established to protect those secrets.  Over time, the trusted insider not only knows the location of the secrets, but also the safeguards to protect them.  Once disaffected, this trusted insider can easily develop tactics to bypass the controls and cause damage to the organisation.

This places the risk officer in a quandary between leadership’s predisposition to trust, which is essential in creating a healthy working culture, and the risk officer’s need to be on the lookout for breaches of trust.  The subject is certainly a very complex one and applies to the complete risk management life cycle covering insider threat identification, prevention, monitoring, detection, remediation and recovery.

You are cordially invited to spend time with the Condyn and Secnovate Teams supported by their international partners to explore these topics and consider ways to empower the role of the risk officer in dealing with the issue of insider threats.
